Frequently Asked Questions about AXLE
  • Who runs AXLE?
AXLE is run by a board of volunteers including Carole Gunst, Jason Lee, Reed Sturtevant, and Chris Wraight.
  • How can you contact AXLE?
    Send an email to board@axle.org.
  • Why can't I access the Directory?
If you can see this page but can't access the Directory you are probably behind a firewall that blocks access to TCP port 8080. Click here to test port 8080 access. If you cannot follow that link, try to access AXLE from another location, e.g., if you are having the problem at work, try again from home. If you determine it is a problem with your company firewall, ask your IT person to change the settings- even IBM doesn't block outbound access to port 8080 :-). Tech note: we are running the directory on this non-standard port because it is on an application server in Reed Sturtevant's basement and his cable provider blocks port 80.
  • How can I help AXLE?
To fund our out-of-pocket expenses such as server hosting, AXLE raises nominal amounts through events, advertising, and sponsorships. Donations are welcome from both individuals and companies. If you would like to help, you can click here to make a small donation:

  • What can I sponsor??
    • Job postings. $25 per month for job postings (125 words). After the first $200 in any month we will give a 50% discount for listings beyond that. For example: 8 listings $200, 12 listings $225.
    • Email and event sponsorship. $250, Level 1. This gets a few sentences (300 characters) inserted into three emails that go out to the membership. Currently, there are about 2600 registered members, which filters to about 1600 valid emails, of which perhaps 1000 are in the greater Boston area.
$500, Level 2. This gets you Level 1 and in addition you can come to the spring or fall event and set up a table to chat with attendees or to distribute literature. We tend to average 60 to 75 people at each event.
    • Banner ads. $100/month for a banner in rotation throughout the site.
    • How to submit: Job descriptions can be submitted to webmaster@axle.org. When payment is received the webmaster will update the site within 48 hours.
To submit a banner ad send the image file (468x60 pixels, GIF or JPG, less than 20kbytes) to webmaster@axle.org and specify a URL to link the ad to. The banner will be posted on the first weekend after payment is received.
If you are interested in email and event sponsorship please write directly to board@axle.org.
    • Payment is due in advance. You may use Paypal to send money to reed@sturtevant.com, or simply make out a check to: "Reed Sturtevant, DBA AXLE" and send it to Reed Sturtevant, 6 Dexter Rd., Lexington, MA 02420.

AXLE renews the mission of enabling communication, collaboration, and co

AXLE is open to the general public. However, only former Lotus employees are permitted to add their names to the directory.
