AXLE = The Association of ex-lotus employees
Hello, AXLE members. Hope 2002 is a happy one for you so far. This email will give you an update on what we've been up to with AXLE, www.axle.org, and some news about our next AXLE get-togethers on March 6th and 7th. Welcome, New Members Don't know if it's the economy, an increased interest in networking, or the fact that no one can remember their passwords and are re-entering themselves, but membership in AXLE has surpassed 2200 members! Recent additions include: Elizabeth Moretti, Rob Beyer, and Marsha Connor! We know there are many more former employees out there. If you know some who might be interested in AXLE, please add them to the database or invite them along to the next get-together. NEW Ex-Employee of the Month Michael Kolowich is back at it again...starting new companies and making yet another return to his professional roots. Michael was Lotus' Corporate VP of Marketing in the mid-1980's, and in 1987 was the VP/chief of all non-spreadsheet products, including some that thrived (most notably Notes and Freelance) and some that struggled (Agenda, Magellan, and Manuscript). Now, though, he's starting an entirely new venture in Concord, Massachusetts, called DigiNovations Incorporated. It's a digital video production studio that is breaking new ground in a hot new area -- preserving family video memories on DVD. To read more, go to www.axle.org. Events Update It's Simulparty time again. We have AXLE Reunions going on in Palo Alto, CA, Seattle, WA and Wellesley, MA going on in the first week of March. If you're in the area, definitely stop by! Palo Alto, CA: Erin Liman, the Principal at InterPlay Arts, a coaching, collaboration and consulting company will be heading up this event at Perry's, a burger-and-beer kind of place located at 546 University Ave in Palo Alto (tel: 650.326.0111) on Wednesday, March 6th from 6:00-8:30 PM. Look for the lady with the yellow & black balloons! For more information, please get in touch with Erin at erin@interplayarts.biz Seattle, WA: Even if you sold out and are now a Microsoft millionaire, you are still welcome to come! AXLE board member, Jason Lee, just relocated to the Seattle area and is pulling together this event which will be held on Thursday, March 7th from 6 - 9:30. Where is the event? You'll need to get in touch with Jason@jazon.com for more information. Wellesley,MA: By popular request, our next East Coast AXLE event will be back at the Papparazzi's on Route 16 in Wellesley, MA. It takes place on Thursday, March, 7th from 6-9 PM. Last fall, when we held it at this same Papparazzi's, we had nearly 100 people attend and we hope to have the same number again. Come join your old co-workers for some drinks and apps. This reunion should be lots of good networking and fun! A $10 donation helps to defray the cost of maintaining the AXLE site. AXLE Makes the News In the last few months, we've made the Boston Globe twice and have recently done an interview with The New York Times on the topic of networking with former co-workers. It seems like organizations like ours are popping up all over the place as former co-workers reconnect as they move on with their lives. AXLE is one of the biggest groups around for publications to write about. Update, Update, Update! (Maybe this should read Nag, Nag, Nag!) Don't forget to update your member profile. Moved? Changed jobs? Stay involved. Stay current! Also, have you noticed anyone missing? Help keep AXLE vibrant and growing. Go to the "Who Are We Missing?" on the directory page and share a lead. If you can't remember your password, simply email webmaster@axle.org and we'll help you out. Hope to see you at one of our AXLE events!
